Pepper spray is one of the best non-lethal, affordable self-defense weapons ever developed. Several decades of field testing by law enforcement and civilians proves that these products are safe, reliable and effective.

Be prepared. Keep one with you at all times.

Pepper spray causes coughing and breathing difficulties, and will temporarily blind an attacker for 10 minutes to an hour. Pepper spray is used by nearly every law enforcement agency throughout the country. Pepper spray will not cause permanent damage and is non-lethal.

State Restrictions on Pepper/O.C. Defense Sprays

"Pepper Spray" or "O.C. Spray" is legal in all 50 states in the US; however, some cities and states have restrictions on sizes and strengths.

New York: New York residents may only purchase defense sprays from licensed firearms dealers or licensed pharmacists in that state

Massachusetts: Residents of Massachusetts may only purchase defense sprays from licensed firearms dealers in that state

Michigan: O.C. Pepper spray can be no stronger then a 2% concentrate. CS is the only tear gas accepted and can be no larger then 35 grams per can. No combination spray allowed.

Wisconsin: Pepper only. No tear gas, UV dye or combination sprays. O.C. can be no stronger then a 10% solution. Container must be between 15-60 grams only. Must have safety feature.

Note, all pepper spray orders must be shipped via ground.  Pepper sprays will be shipped within US only.  Sorry, we cannot ship to NY, MA, MI or WI.

What is "O.C."?

O.C. is a derivative of hot cayenne peppers and is the latest defensive spray agent. It is an inflammatory agent, not an irritant like tear gas. Contact with mucous membranes (eyes, nose, throat and lungs) will cause immediate dilation of the capillaries in the eyes, resulting in temporary blindness and instant inflammation of breathing tissues. O.C. will not deteriorate with age and unlike tear gasses, and does not cause any lasting after effects.

The term O.C. (oleoresin capsicum) is a horticultural term referring to chili peppers. There are many different types of chili peppers including jalapenos, cayenne, chiletpin, and habaneros. They all have one thing in common. They all contain a substance that is very powerful - an alkaloid called capsaicin (cap-say-a-sin). Just a single drop of tasteless and odorless capsaicin in 100,000 drops of water and the heat can be noticeable. In fact, humans can detect capsaicin at one part per ten million!

One of the biggest misconceptions about defense spray is that the higher the percentage, the hotter and better it works. In most cases this could not be further from the truth. Most of the best, fastest incapacitating sprays in the world are from 2%-10%. The lighter the fluid, the faster is penetrates the membranes. The percentage has nothing to do with the actual "hot" in the spray. Also, thicker sprays can inflame the skin area more and last longer with unnecessary inflammation. A good spray will put the attacker down and out allowing you to escape or take control of the situation.

Because it is an inflammatory, rather than an irritant, O.C. is effective. O.C. has proven to be the best deterrent available against those who feel no pain (intoxicated attackers, etc.), attacking dogs and wild animal control. Another major advantage of O.C. is that it is not volatile and will not emit a lot of fumes like tear gases.

Storing

Do not leave your pepper spray in any area that may exceed 120 degrees F or drop below 0 degrees F. Excessive heat or cold may cause the can to leak or burst. DO NOT STORE YOUR PEPPER SPRAY IN YOUR CAR.

Air Travel

According to the Code of Federal Regulations, 49 CFR Part 175.10(a)(4)(ii), the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) allows one self-defense spray, not exceeding 118 ml (4 fluid ounces) by volume, that incorporates a positive means to prevent accidental discharge, to be carried in checked baggage only. Sprays are not allowed in carry-on luggage or at any time in passenger areas.
